USW Reference Generator
By Alex • Published: 16 November 2025 • Updated: 4 December 2025
A small browser tool to help generate University of South Wales style references for online sources, with both in-text and end-text citations and support for saved reference lists.
The generator follows the structure and conventions used in the USW Harvard system, including treatment of personal authors, organisational authors, “no date” sources, title capitalisation, access dates and the standard “Available at:” format. It also provides an A–Z reference list with export and import support, allowing students to maintain multiple named lists entirely in the browser.
All processing happens locally on your device. Nothing is uploaded or stored externally. The tool is intentionally simple and avoids advanced reference manager behaviours so it remains predictable and transparent and you can see exactly how each component is generated.
For authoritative guidance, students should always consult the official USW referencing documentation, available at the USW Referencing Guides . These pages provide the full rules, examples for different source types, and updates that may supersede the conventions used here.
Use of this tool for assessed academic work may be subject to your programme or module policies. While it can support your drafting process, the responsibility for accuracy, correctness and compliance with USW standards remains with the student. Always double check your references against the official guidance before submission.
